<<<<  Previous : 2*2*2 LED Cube Guide for Beginners, using Arduino

We had already seen 2*2*2 LED cube using arduino mega in previous blogs. Here we will see the circuit to control 3*3*3 LED cube using arduino mega. Circuit is done as shown in the following diagram.

3*3*3 LED cube has 27 LEDs in 3 layers. Each LEDs can be addressed in terms of negative and positive terminals of LED cube. neg1, neg2, neg3, neg4, neg5, neg6, neg7, neg8, neg9 are the negative terminals and pos1, pos2, pos3 are the positive terminals.

          LEDs at the bottom layer can be addressed as (neg1, pos1), (neg2, pos1), (neg3, pos1), (neg4, pos1), (neg5, pos1), (neg6, pos1), (neg7, pos1), (neg8, pos1) and (neg9, pos1).

          LEDs at the middle layer can be addressed as (neg1, pos2), (neg2, pos2), (neg3, pos2), (neg4, pos2), (neg5, pos2), (neg6, pos2), (neg7, pos2), (neg8, pos2) and (neg9, pos2).

          Similarly, LEDs at the top layer can be addressed as (neg1, pos3), (neg2, pos3), (neg3, pos3), (neg4, pos3), (neg5, pos3), (neg6, pos3), (neg7, pos3), (neg8, pos3) and (neg9, pos3).

Resistors of 1K should be connected to the positive terminals of LED cube. Connections between LED cube and arduino mega can be summarized as:

"neg1" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 13 of arduino mega.
"neg2" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 12 of arduino mega.
"neg3" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 11 of arduino mega.
"neg4" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 10 of arduino mega.
"neg5" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 9 of arduino mega.
"neg6" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 8 of arduino mega.
"neg7" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 7 of arduino mega.
"neg8" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 6 of arduino mega.
"neg9" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 5 of arduino mega.
"pos1" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 4 of arduino mega.
"pos2" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 3 of arduino mega.
"pos3" of 3*3*3 LED cube is connected to the digital pin 2 of arduino mega.
